MEI, who Complex hail an ‘R&B Wonder’, is a South London vocalist, songwriter, producer and bassist with a unique blend of R&B, alternative and electronic elements combined with soul-baring lyrics and raps. She creates a sound that she describes as, ‘honey for your ears, medicine for your fears’.
MEI has crafted a distinctive sonic world that develops with each release, showcasing her commitment to growth and discovery. Her name which means ‘beauty’ in Chinese is her stimulus to search for beauty within, so that she can create music that empowers and inspires. MEI was crowned with a Top 2 EP by Jamz Supernova on BBC 1Xtra for 2020 project ‘No Steps Back’.
She has also been supported by the likes of Clash Magazine, BBC 6 Music, BBC Introducing, gal-dem and was a featured artist on the FIFA 19 Soundtrack. An experienced performer, MEI has previously sung backing vocals for the likes of Brian Eno and Karl Hyde (Underworld) on Later with Jools Holland and Lauren Laverne’s BBC Maida Vale session.
